Electric Forest Timelapse by Jason Kopelman

Posted by inflatabill in sightings, video on July 5, 2012

Jason Kopelman shot this time-lapse video showing some of the Sherwood Forest setup and the arrival of thousands of campers at the 2012 Electric Forest Festival. Be sure to view this in Full Screen HD quality. Also, Jason shot a second video that includes a video panorama from inside the Reincarnation Station, and an overhead [...]

Sherwood Forest Timelapse by Calder Wilson

Posted by inflatabill in sightings, video on July 5, 2012

This is my favorite time-lapse video from Electric Forest 2012. Calder Wilson really captured the way the light moved about the forest, and especially how the colors of the Cathedral Windows reacted to the color-changing lights.

Electric Forest Panoramas

Posted by inflatabill in installation stories, photography on June 29, 2012

A photo just doesn’t capture the magic of the Sherwood Forest — it’s a 360 degree experience.

So, this year I decided to shoot a bunch of 360 panoramas. It’s the next best thing to being there.

Take a stroll through the forest with me …

Sherwood Forest 2012 – The Vision

Posted by inflatabill in Inspiration, installation stories on June 27, 2012

With its extreme verticality and narrow shaft of light, the main walkway through the Sherwood Forest has always reminded me of the nave of a magnificent gothic cathedral. With little imagination, the tree trunks become rows of stone columns holding up an elaborate vaulted ceiling of branches and leaves. My idea is to expand on this theme by adding the elements which Nature has overlooked: windows and light.

Making Windows for the Electric Forest

Posted by inflatabill in in the shop, video on June 23, 2012

Making these windows was a painstaking process to say the least. This was my first time working with this lightweight translucent fabric, and my first time using tape (instead of thread) to hold the pieces of fabric together.

My Favorite Commute Ever

In one more day, this will be my commute again. At least for the next 10 days.

Wanderlust 2011 Timelaspe

Posted by inflatabill in sightings, video on March 9, 2012

Of all the festivals I have worked, Wanderlust California wins the prize for the most scenic location. Thousands of yoga and music enthusiasts from around the country converge on the northern shore of Lake Tahoe at the Squaw Valley Olympic Village for 4 days of yoga, music, art, wine, and food. The focus of the [...]

Inflating Merkaba Cinemagraph

Posted by inflatabill in photography on February 21, 2012

One of the newest trends in digital photography is the Cinemagraph. Made popular by the fashion photographers Kevin Burg and Jamie Beck, the cinemagraph is essentially a still photograph, but with subtle movement. There are many ways to make a cinemagraph, but with this image, I took the easy way by using the Kinotopic app for the iPhone.  It’s far [...]

Inflatable Costumes

Posted by inflatabill in musings on February 18, 2012

Back in the day, I used to make inflatable costumes.  I still have a box full of them, and they certainly come in handy whenever I’m in need of a quick costume, but it’s been a while since I’ve made any new ones.  I like making them, and they’re definitely fun to wear, it’s just [...]

Golden Gate Bridge Panoramas

Posted by inflatabill in photography on February 3, 2012

I went for a hike around the Presidio in San Francisco and shot these panoramas of the Golden Gate Bridge. The visitor center on the toll plaza side is being completely renovated in preparation for this year’s 75th anniversary celebration, so the area was littered with chain link fencing, construction equipment, and torn up sidewalks. [...]
