Mermaid Bubble
A spontaneous interaction between the mermaid and the flower artist at the 2007 Sea of Dreams New Year’s Eve, San Francisco, California.
This was the first appearance of the bubble, and the reason why I built it. The concept was to have a mermaid in a bubble in the middle of the room. She had to be able to enter and exit the bubble gracefully, without any noisy blowers or air compressors, and she should be able to stay inside for long periods of time without running out of oxygen. We then had a pair of flower artists create a living flower mandala around the base of the bubble. I just happened to be filming when this spontaneous interaction happened.
